Iran: Election of the new president tomorrow, 6 candidates will compete
Polling for the election of the president of Iran will be held tomorrow (Friday) while six candidates are competing for the presidential election.
The presidential elections in Iran were supposed to be held in 2025, but after the death of President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter accident last month, the Iranian people will vote for this position tomorrow (Friday).
According to media reports, Iran's Shura Nighban has approved the names of only 6 candidates for the election of the Iranian president.
These 6 presidential candidates include Saeed Jalili, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, Masoud Pazishkian, Mustafa Pour Mohammadi, Amir Hussain Ghazizadeh Hashemi and Ali Rezazakani.
There are no female candidates in Iran's presidential election because women are not allowed to run for president in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to data from the Iranian Ministry of Interior, 287 people have officially declared their intention to run for the presidency, and 80 of them have formally registered as potential candidates.
Four women were also included in these 80 potential election candidates, but the Guardian Council excluded their names from the list of potential candidates.
It should be noted that these early presidential elections are being held in Iran after the martyrdom of President Ibrahim Raisi.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has urged the people to actively participate in Friday's election.
Earlier in the 2021 presidential election, after several reformist and moderate candidates were disqualified, voters did not show interest in the voting process, resulting in a voting turnout of around 49 percent. It was the lowest voting turnout in history.
It should be noted that the presidential elections are being held in Iran at a time when the country is facing challenges due to inflation internally and the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas at the international level.
