The girl was burnt to death along with the car
The young girl was burned to death inside the car, identified by law enforcement agencies with the help of fingerprints.
Mercedes Vega, 22, was last seen at 9:15 p.m. when she was leaving her apartment complex in Tempe, Arizona, USA. In the CCTV video, Vega is seen walking with her face down.
Mercedes Vega also texted several people on her phone list on the night of April 16. In one of the messages, she wrote, "I feel so weird, like maybe I shouldn't be going anywhere."
On the morning of April 17, the Herkuhala Fire Department received a report of a burning car in the 'northbound' area of the I-Ten Highway west of Arizona.
Firefighters found a 2018 model Chevrolet Malibu on fire and after extinguishing the fire, officers found a dead human body in the back seat.
Investigators used fingerprints to identify the woman found inside the car as 22-year-old Mercedes Vega.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's report states the cause of death of the girl was multiple blunt force trauma and burns.
The death report also stated that the girl also suffered a gunshot wound which contributed to her death, while the vehicle smelled of bleach.
The report also states that gloves, bleach and lighter fluid were found in the front of the car and in the back seat.
