Celebrating World Health Day !
By Uzair Saleem
World Health Day is being observed all over the world including Pakistan today. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make people all over the world aware of the importance of health. It was first celebrated in 1950. In 1948, the Health Assembly, a subsidiary of the World Health Organization (WHO), approved the celebration of World Health Day on April 7 every year, after which April 7 is celebrated worldwide as "World Health Day". The constitution of the Institute of Health states that its objective is to provide the best possible state of health to all people. For this purpose, a campaign titled "Health for All in the 21st Century" was launched in 1998.
The World Health Organization says that the health status should be at a level that benefits all countries socially and economically. Health is an essential component for sustainable human development. The World Health Organization's Constitution addresses physical and mental integrity, social well-being and illness or disability. This definition of health was defined in the 1986 Ottawa Declaration on the Concept of Health Promotion developed by the World Health Organization. This condition was considered necessary to provide a vision of the environment to cope with change to meet the needs, desires and hopes of individuals and groups. On the other hand, the right to health of millions of people worldwide is under threat. Diseases and disasters are major causes of death and disability. Conflicts destroy lives, causing death, pain, hunger and psychological distress. Exacerbating the crisis and robbing us of our right to breathe clean air, indoor and outdoor air pollution kills one life every 5 seconds. The WHO Council on Economics of Health for All says at least 140 countries recognize health as a human right in their constitutions.
Yet countries are not passing and implementing measures to ensure that their populations have the right to access health services. This reflects the fact that at least 4.5 billion people – more than half of the world's population – are not yet fully covered by essential health services .To address these challenges, World Health Day 2024 The theme is 'My Health, My Right'. This year's theme is the right of everyone, access to quality health services, education and information everywhere, as well as clean drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, Made for working and environmental conditions, and independence. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make people all over the world aware of the importance of health. In this regard, like all over the world, in Pakistan, the Ministry of Health, Department of Health Punjab, Pakistan Medical Association, other medical organizations and NGOs are organized. Walks, seminars, conferences and other events are organized in which awareness is provided about the golden principles of healthy living.
